Victor Yuen

Victor Yuen, a native of Hong Kong, is a second year Master’s student after earning a Bachelor’s degree from the Eastman School of Music in 2016 under the guidance of Professor James Thompson. Victor also studies Baroque trumpet with Professor Brain Shaw and Jared Wallis and has performed internationally. Victor is an active member in various groups in different genres in school including the Eastman Philharmonia, Eastman Wind Ensemble, Eastman Brass Guild, Eastman Opera, Eastman Baroque Trumpet Ensemble, East End Brass and Eastman Jazz Lab Band. In 2016, he was part of the large trumpet ensemble which advanced to semi-finals for National Trumpet Competition. Victor is a founding member of the Eastman Baroque Trumpet Ensemble and also International Trumpet Guild Eastman Chapter. In Hong Kong, he performs regularly with the jazz group 5422 Collectives, as well as Cammer Musicus, serving as the Baroque trumpet player. He also performed with international pop star Coco Lee, Grammy Award winner Jerry Freeman and Darnell Phillips, and S.O.S. Band members Abdul Ra’oof and Sultan Muhammad. Victor is an aspiring brass instrument repairman and received a year’s training working as an apprentice at Rich Ita’s Brass Instrument Workshop in Atlanta GA. Victor has played with the Diocesan Wind Orchestra in Hong Kong and traveled around the world to competitions including the Singapore International Band Festival and the World Music Contest in Kerkrade, Netherlands. Away from the trumpet, Victor is an avid chorister who performs and competes with the Diocesan Boys’ School Choir in the World Choir Games and Int. Johannes Brahms Choir Festival.
